About Wisconsin

Wisconsin

Wisconsin is a state in the Midwest of the USA. The name Wisconsin means "meeting of the waters" and is of Native American origin. Wisconsin borders Illinois and Iowa to the south, Minnesota to the west, and Michigan to the north. To the east lies the long Lake Michigan shoreline and in the northwest a smaller Lake Superior shoreline.

Being home to two Great Lakes, thousands of inland lakes and waterways, the state could easily be called the nation's "Waterworld". The southern portion of the State is mainly agricultural and urban while the northern half is mostly rural and forested and is more similar in appearance to Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The central region acts as a transition zone with forests, farmland, and small cities. The State's largest city and urban area is Milwaukee located in southeastern Wisconsin. In south-central Wisconsin lies the state capitol, Madison.

Wisconsin is known nationwide for its dairy heritage, hence the nickname, "America's Dairyland". Historically an important mining state, settlers migrated to Wisconsin in the 1830s attracted by rich farmland. Dairy farming was popularized by settlers from New York and New England in 1830-60. Dominant industries today include pulp, paper and paper products (40 percent of the state being forested), transportation and equipment manufacturing, dairy farming and food processing.

The Marvelous Menominee on 1+ Acre! TBD Town Road K, Florence WI. Mls# 1104779

Florence, Florence County, Wisconsin

Wisconsin Wooded Parcel with 195 Feet of Menominee River Frontage for sale! This 1.94 acre property is located in Florence County, in the northeast corner of Wisconsin. There are 265 lakes and 165 miles of rivers and streams located within the county. The most scenic and popular natural attraction is the Menominee River corridor! The name of the river comes from an Ojibwe Algonquian term meaning "wild rice", or "in the place of wild rice." The river is approximately 120 miles long. Its entire course forms the border between northeastern Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula, ultimately draining into Lake Michigan's Green Bay. On its journey the Menominee River picks up more than 100 tributaries, including the Pine, Sturgeon, Pemebonwon and Pike Rivers, and it contains some of the fastest-moving water in Michigan and Wisconsin. It is the largest watershed in the Upper Peninsula, and one of the largest within the Lake Michigan drainage basin - the Menominee and its tributaries drain more than 4,000 square miles. Along its course the Menominee River has been converted into a series of large reservoirs. The waters contained in these reservoirs are some of the area's deepest and cleanest lakes. The river and reservoirs provides habitat for smallmouth bass, walleye, pike, trout and lake sturgeon. The smallmouth bass fishery is regarded as one of the best in North America! Along with continuous fishing action and water-based recreation on the river, you will enjoy the wilderness aesthetics! There are excellent opportunities for viewing both game and nongame wildlife. Bald Eagles are commonly seen and are known to nest all along the river. The river also hosts osprey, common loons, songbirds , eastern timber wolves, deer, bear, otter and other wild life! Short drives from the property will provide you Outdoor Recreational Action during every season! In summer, experienced and beginners can canoe and kayak off the shore of the property, where the channel is about 10 to 12 feet deep. There is hazard free boating from the property to 211-Acre Bad Water Lake (Twin Fall Flowage). Further down-river, the lower parts of the Menominee are able to provide white water enthusiasts with some of the largest volume rapids in the Midwest, with characteristics similar to those found on the Colorado River. There is also the Pine River Oxbow, which is popular with tubers. There are 6 waterfalls that can be hiked, and 15+ signed hiking trails nearby with most in the County and National Forests. Five mountain biking trails and several popular ATV road routes, as well as three Equestrian Trails are found in this region. The 18-Hole, Timber Stone golf course is just 13 miles to the north at the Pine Mountain Resort in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Pine Mountain also has an 18-Run ski hill and snowboard arena. Wildlife viewing and bird watching at the Spread Eagle Barrens State Natural Area are exceptional! During the Winter the County has over 180 miles of groomed snowmobile trails with excellent scenery, several groomed Cross Country Ski trails, and the Keyes Peak Ski Hill offers downhill skiing, snowboarding, and snow inner-tubing! The undeveloped WE Energies land across the river provides lots of privacy for the property being sold. (A beautiful 3-Bedroom Executive Retreat with 228-Feet of Menominee River frontage adjacent to this Vacant Land parcel, is also listed for sale - See MLS# 1103620.)
