Wisconsin Waterfront Homes for Sale

Wisconsin is a state in the Midwest of the USA. The name Wisconsin means "meeting of the waters" and is of Native American origin. Wisconsin borders Illinois and Iowa to the south, Minnesota to the west, and Michigan to the north. To the east lies the long Lake Michigan shoreline and in the northwest a smaller Lake Superior shoreline.

Being home to two Great Lakes, thousands of inland lakes and waterways, the state could easily be called the nation's "Waterworld". The southern portion of the State is mainly agricultural and urban while the northern half is mostly rural and forested and is more similar in appearance to Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The central region acts as a transition zone with forests, farmland, and small cities. The State's largest city and urban area is Milwaukee located in southeastern Wisconsin. In south-central Wisconsin lies the state capitol, Madison.

Wisconsin is known nationwide for its dairy heritage, hence the nickname, "America's Dairyland". Historically an important mining state, settlers migrated to Wisconsin in the 1830s attracted by rich farmland. Dairy farming was popularized by settlers from New York and New England in 1830-60. Dominant industries today include pulp, paper and paper products (40 percent of the state being forested), transportation and equipment manufacturing, dairy farming and food processing.

Wisconsin Upper Twin Island 50072653

Wagner, Marinette County, Wisconsin

NORTHERN PART OF UPPER TWIN ISLAND ON THE MENOMINEE RIVER FOR SALE! This 39.58-Acre parcel is located at the northern end of 69-Acre Upper Twin Island, just off the shore of Wagner, in Wagner Township, in Marinette County of Wisconsin. Approximately 116 miles long, the Menominee River is a river in northwestern Michigan and northeastern Wisconsin. Its course, with that of its tributary, forms part of the boundary between the two states. Formed by the confluence or the Brule and Michigamme rivers, it flows southward collecting water from over a 100 tributaries, and then flows into the Green Bay on Lake Michigan. It meanders through remote, tranquil wilderness areas, creating an angler's paradise! Walleye, Largemouth and smallmouth bass, Trout, Muskie, and seasonal Sturgeon, Salmon, and Whitefish fish are abundant. The historical Island is located between Michigan and Wisconsin. Because of its excellent location 18 miles from the river's mouth, in 1841, it became the sight of the second lumber mill ever built in the area. Built by Charles McLeod, this old fashioned sash saw mill was powered by water, and remained in operation for only a few years. The mill buildings were standing until the Peshtigo Fire of 1871. The island today provides a beautiful setting for wildlife watching, bird watching for Eagles, Osprey, Common loons, and other waterfowl. Eagles can be seen roosting in the tall trees, fishing in the river waters, or soaring overhead. There are wooded areas, some more-open meadow areas, an understory covered with many types of edible mushrooms, and beautiful locations that have been identified for cabin sites. The island is reached today by boat, canoe, or kayak in the summer, and by crossing the frozen river in the winter. Boat access from Wisconsin is from Twin Island Wayside Park, about a quarter mile to the south (It is located at Latitude N 45.26081 and Longitude W -87.71261 , or from the Menominee River County Park about a quarter mile up stream. (Latitude 45.2819211 and Longitude -87.7001108) Boat access from the Michigan side is from the River County Park. (Latitude 45.25951 and Longitude 87.70636) This paradise would make a wonderful location for sustainable forestry, wildlife management programs, a private Corporate Retreat, or for your private, fishing, hiking, and wilderness camping retreat. Contact Us For Information Today! ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE MENOMINEE RIVER: The Menominee Rivers name comes from an Ojibwe Algonquian word meaning “wild rice”, or “in the place of wild rice”. The Ojibwe used the same name for the river that the historic Menominee tribe who lived along the river shores, and used rice as a food staple. The Chippewa lived in the northern portion of the river basin and called the river Me-ne-cane Sepe, or “Many Little Islands River”. Early French Jesuit priests traveled the river on their missionary trips, and called the river the “Wild Oats River”, referring to the wild rice.
