Michigan Waterfront Homes for Sale

Michigan

Michigan is in the upper Midwest and the heart of the Great Lakes region. It has many attractions, famous landmarks, and scenic state and national parks and forests. In addition to the “great ones”, it has about 12,000 inland lakes, 38 deep-water ports, more miles of coastline than any state but Alaska, and more lighthouses than any other U.S. state. Its agriculture features tourist-friendly fare such as cherries, blueberries, peaches, apples, and wine. And its cities include a major metropolis, some university towns, and countless rustic villages. The state is geographically unique, being comprised of two major peninsulas, and it can be further divided into five distinct areas. They are the Upper Peninsula, (known to Michiganders as "The U.P."), Northern Michigan (Big Rapids and Northwards), Western Michigan (along the sandy coast of Lake Michigan), Central Michigan or "Mid-Michigan" and the Southeast or "Downstate".

The Lower Peninsula has the majority of the population (primarily in the south), while the Upper Peninsula, separated by Lake Michigan and a bit of Lake Huron, is mostly rural. Until 1957, the only way to drive from one to the other was to go all the way around Lake Michigan, or take your car onto a ferry. Michigan's economy was previously dominated by the auto industry, but has diversified somewhat as that and other traditional manufacturing industries have moved their facilities elsewhere, and it's beginning to attract more information technology, life sciences, and high-tech manufacturing jobs. Tourism is a growing segment of the economy, focusing in winter on activities in the snow, and in summer on the State's extensive beaches, lakes, and rivers. Hunting, fishing, and sailing are also popular outdoor activities

Remote U.P. Rec Property 10073037

Ishpeming Township, Marquette County, Michigan

Remote Recreational Property For Sale. This remote 80+/- Acre wooded parcel is located in Ishpeming Township, in north-central Marquette County, in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The Clark Creek touches the southwest corner of the property. Its origin is from Penny Lake - a small lake located high up in the Mulligan Plains (east of the Silver Lake Basin) in Champion Township, and then flows south-easterly about six miles and become a tributary of The Dead River Storage Basin. The Dead River Storage Basin is just 1½ miles to the south of the property that is being offered for sale. It is a 3,274-Acre lake that sprawls across an area north of the Cities of Ishpeming and Negaunee, and west of Marquette, in Marquette County, the largest county in Michigan. It is an impoundment of the Dead River. The river's main waters originate high up in the rugged, rocky ridges to the northwest and then flow 43+ miles south-easterly to its mouth on Lake Superior. This un-crowded Basin is about 11 miles long, and is great for boating, sailing, kayaking, and fishing. It is known as one of the State's best Smallmouth bass fisheries, and it also contains big Northern pike, Perch, Walleyes and some Brook trout. Fishing Tournaments are often held here. The property has offered many successful deer hunts. The property is also bordered on the northwest, and west by hundreds of acres of Corporate CFA Land for “walk-in” hunting, trapping, and fishing in season. Snowmobile Trail Number 14 runs diagonally through the southwest corner of the property. This trail is 26 miles long and connects the City of Marquette to the Village of Big Bay. It is one of the most picturesque local trails with mountain paths, and cliff top views of Lake Superior and Lake Independence. Just a mile + to the south is access to the North Country National Scenic Trail. This 4,800 mile trail crosses through eight States, and is the longest scenic trail system in the U.S. The topography of the 80 acres is made up of high rugged terrain, with slopes and some outcrops of bedrock. There are several sites for campgrounds that will provide awesome views. Parts of this property are over 1,500 feet above sea level. A select cut of timber has been done on part of the property, and there is more timber that can be harvested. Trees Common in the Area include: Balsam fir, Bigtooth aspen, Eastern arborvitae, Eastern hemlock, Eastern white pine, Jack pine, Northern red oak, Paper birch, Quaking aspen, Red maple, Red pine, and Yellow birch. The roads into this property are not County maintained or plowed in the winter time, so access to then, would only be by snowmobile or tracked all-terrain type vehicles.
