Michigan Waterfront Homes for Sale

Michigan

Michigan is in the upper Midwest and the heart of the Great Lakes region. It has many attractions, famous landmarks, and scenic state and national parks and forests. In addition to the “great ones”, it has about 12,000 inland lakes, 38 deep-water ports, more miles of coastline than any state but Alaska, and more lighthouses than any other U.S. state. Its agriculture features tourist-friendly fare such as cherries, blueberries, peaches, apples, and wine. And its cities include a major metropolis, some university towns, and countless rustic villages. The state is geographically unique, being comprised of two major peninsulas, and it can be further divided into five distinct areas. They are the Upper Peninsula, (known to Michiganders as "The U.P."), Northern Michigan (Big Rapids and Northwards), Western Michigan (along the sandy coast of Lake Michigan), Central Michigan or "Mid-Michigan" and the Southeast or "Downstate".

The Lower Peninsula has the majority of the population (primarily in the south), while the Upper Peninsula, separated by Lake Michigan and a bit of Lake Huron, is mostly rural. Until 1957, the only way to drive from one to the other was to go all the way around Lake Michigan, or take your car onto a ferry. Michigan's economy was previously dominated by the auto industry, but has diversified somewhat as that and other traditional manufacturing industries have moved their facilities elsewhere, and it's beginning to attract more information technology, life sciences, and high-tech manufacturing jobs. Tourism is a growing segment of the economy, focusing in winter on activities in the snow, and in summer on the State's extensive beaches, lakes, and rivers. Hunting, fishing, and sailing are also popular outdoor activities

LAKE MICHIGAN PROPERTY FOR SALE! - Discover your own slice of the Great Lakes with this 5.4+/- acre waterfront parcel featuring670 feet of pristine Lake Michigan shoreline. - Nestled near the historic Village of Gros Cap area near St. Ignace in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, this deeply wooded parcel offers towering trees that meet the crystal-clear waters of America's third-largest Great Lake. -The Village of Gros Cap in Moran Township is in the lower portion of Mackinac County. - This Village appeared on a map for the first time about 1750. This area was first called St. Helena, the name of the offshore island which now bears the name. Named by the French, Big Cape, from its location on land jutting in the Straits of Mackinaw. (The name of the Village is also called Groscap.) This Village was settled by Mr. Cheeseman, a Mormon refugee from Beaver Island. The southeastern portion of the Township is adjacent to the City of St. Ignace. The area's rich Native American and French colonial heritage adds cultural depth to this area. - From this gateway to the Upper Peninsula, you'll enjoy proximity to world-class recreational opportunities including the famous Mackinac Island, known for the Grand Hotel just eleven miles away, historic St. Ignace six miles distant, and the pristine St. Helena Island Nature Preserve merely two miles across the water. The neighbor to the south is a 12 +/- acre State of Michigan Parcel. Some of the non-game wildlife you might see include moose, wolves, eagles, woodland raptors, songbirds, turtles, lizards, and many others. Sawmill Creek, a tributary to the Escanaba River (an important fishery)transects the 485 acres with about a mile of frontage. A unique feature on a small 1-2 acre pond in the southwest area of the parcel, is that it is filled by an artesian spring. Four Hundred Eighty acres of these 485 acres is in Michigan's Qualified Forest Program, which allows for a tax abatement on this acreage (QFP does not require landowner to allow others access to property). Property abuts State of Michigan land, and many acres of private and corporate land in the Commercial Forest Act that are available to the public. This acreage is part of a larger, ecologically important area, locally called the Sawmill Creek Wooded-Wetland Complex, with thousands of acres of the wildest country in the U.P. within and to the south of this property.
